Dear Readers, if someday you may visit The Ambarawa Railway Museum in The Central Java, Indonesia, please never forget to take a look at some old pictures stored here. There are at least two black – white old pictures that you can find at the museum as seen below. Those pictures are hanging on the wall of its stationmaster’s office.

Although these pictures are apparently valuable, but unfortunately, there’s no explanation about these pictures, such as time, location these pictures to be taken, its photographer, as well as who are in the pictures, etc. Because of these reasons, I said here that these are “The Ambarawa Railway Museum's historical silent pictures”. What do you think about this?

Nevertheless, one thing delighting is that these two pictures are still clear enough to be seen. One picture shows a large numbers of people, comprised with children, youths, as well as oldsters, posed in a properly arranged position. Most of them wear white clothes. The one other picture shows two men (foreigners?) posed in white uniform.

Sisa-sisa Peninggalan Belanda di RSU Ambarawa

Di sebelah timur Museum Kereta Api Ambarawa, kira-kira berjarak satu kilo meter, di sana berdiri Rumah Sakit Umum Ambarawa (RSU Ambarawa).

Bila kita perhatikan, terutama pada bangunan sebelah belakang, di Rumah Sakit Umum Ambarawa (RSU Ambarawa) masih jelas nampak adanya sisa-sisa atau bekas-bekas peninggalan sejarah penjajah Belanda, yakni bentuk bangunan dan adanya bangunan seperti bekas Kapel (gereja kecil).

Meskipun pada menara "bekas Kapel" tersebut sudah tidak ada lagi salib, tetapi pada kaca jendela sebelah barat masih terdapat tanda salib ciri khas gereja Katholik. Hal ini bisa dilihat pada foto sebelah ini yg saya ambil pada bulan April 2009.

Menurut penuturan orang yg saya temui pada saat saya memotret tsb, konon katanya rumah sakit umum Ambarawa ini adalah rumah sakit swasta peninggalan Belanda yg dikelola oleh yayasan Katholik, tetapi kemudian diambil alih pemerintah sekitar tahun 1950-an.

Masih menurut Bapak yang berbicara kepada saya tadi, dulu katanya gedung yg mirip Kapel tsb memang sebuah Kapel. Dan, waktu dia masih kecil, dia masih melihat adanya Gua Maria di sebelah Kapel tsb, yakni tepat pada posisi tempat tiang bendera sekarang ini berdiri (liha foto).

Apakah sisa-sisa sejarah peninggalan penjajah Belanda di rumah sakit umum Ambarawa ini akan lenyap karena memang tidak ada niat untuk melestarikannya?

Atau akan dirawat dan dipertahankan sebagai sebuah cagar budaya (heritage) yg memiliki nilai sejarah tinggi untuk kemaslahatan masyarakat banyak?

Kita tunggu saja, atau kita musti bertindak?
Memangnya siapa yg masih peduli pada obyek wisata yg jaraknya tidak jauh dari Museum Kereta Api Ambarawa ini?

Coming to The Niagara Falls, as it’s promised before, all accommodation in Niagara Falls are already prepared, such as Falls-view hotels, Bed and Breakfast, etc. I really enjoy the milieu, ambience, as well as atmosphere here. And, the time is finally come. We must perform a free fall from the top of the Niagara Falls.

“Rome was not built in a day”. It was the proverb my teachers told us when we were still studying in elementary, high school, even in university. My teachers used the proverb to describe if patient, consistency, and work hard were the key success factors, as well as thinking smart, to become a success person. It was a very wise advice, I thought. But, there was a question always haunts my mind: “Why Rome, instead of Paris or other cities?” Such a question motivated me to have a wish that someday I should be able to visit Rome. The Ambarawa Railway Museum.

Now, after years passing by, such a wish tends to grow again. But something is different. I want everything run quickly, timely, as well as up to date and real time. Di sekitar Museum Kereta Api Ambarawa ada banyak obyek wisata menarik, baik obyek wisata peninggalan penjajah Belanda, obyek wisata rohani, maupun obyek wisata pemandangan alam.

Obyek wisata paling dekat dengan Museum Kereta Api Ambarawa yg merupakan peninggalan Belanda seperti misalnya Benteng Pendem. Obyek wisata ini terletak di sebelah timur Rumah Sakit Umum Ambarawa. Meskipun kondisinya saat ini (2009) "cukup merana", tetapi Benteng Pendem masih sangat layak untuk menjadi obyek wisata, karena nilai sejarahnya yg tinggi. Khusus mengenai Benteng Pendem ini akan saya sajikan dalam artikel tersendiri.

Di dalam lingkungan Rumah Sakit Umum Ambarawa sendiri masih jelas terlihat sisa-sisa sejarah peninggalan Belanda, yakni bekas bangungan Kapel (Gereja Kecil), meskipun pada bagian menara "Kapel" tsb sudah tidak terdapat salib. Judul di KabarIndonesia.com: "Soal Heritage, Orang Ambarawa Tak Mau Kalah"

Saat ini di Solo memang sedang ada perhelatan akbar konferensi heritage internasional atau yg dikenal dengan WHCCE (World Heritage Cities Conference and Expo) tgl 25 s/d 30 Oktober ini, tetapi orang Ambarawa tak mau kalah. The Ambarawa Railway Museum.

"Orang Ambarawa" juga mengadakan kegiatan terkait heritage, meskipun lingkupnya lebih kecil, sarasehan heritage Ambarawa, sarasehan yang berasal dari bawah, yang digagas oleh mereka, mayoritas adalah kaum muda, yang peduli dengan warisan / pusaka kotanya.

Layaknya sumpah pemuda, mereka begitu bersemangat. Berikut ini adalah laporan saya dari Ambarawa.

”Kalau untuk kepentingan masyarakat luas, pemerintah daerah harus tegas. Jangan karena ada kepentingan politik, lalu membiarkan area heritage dipakai untuk kegiatan ekonomi yang bisa merusak dan mengancam kelestarian heritage itu sendiri”. Pernyataan ini disampaikan Ir. Y. Joko Setiyanto, Ketua Umum Yayasan Ambarawa Heritage, dalam sarasehan berjudul Menggali Potensi Ambarawa (Eks Kawedanan) pada hari Minggu, 27 Oktober 2008. Sarasehan digelar di pendopo kecamatan Ambarawa, Kabupaten Semarang, Jawa Tengah. The Ambarawa Railway Museum.

”Sekali heritage itu rusak atau punah, kita tidak bisa lagi menghadirkannya. Itu kerugian yang sangat luar biasa, baik untuk kita maupun untuk generasi yang akan datang. Itulah sebabnya kita akan terus berjuang mempertahankan dan melestarikan heritage Ambarawa, meskipun pihak-pihak yang mestinya sejalan dengan kita justru tidak kelihatan serius mendukung. Tetapi kita tidak perlu patah semangat. Apapun yang terjadi, kita akan terus jalan demi heritage Ambarawa”, Ketua Umum yang secara khusus datang dari tempat tinggalnya di Jakarta hanya untuk sarasehan ini menegaskan. Perlu diketahui, “Ambarawa Heritage” merupakan perkumpulan mereka yang peduli terhadap kelestarian / konservasi warisan leluhur / pusaka (heritage) Ambarawa, baik warisan yang berupa benda / phisik maupun non-phisik. Warisan / pusaka Ambarawa yang menjadi kebanggaan Kabupaten Semarang cukup banyak. Di antaranya adalah Candi Gedong Songo, Gua Jepang, Museum Kereta Api, Monumen Palagan, Benteng Pendem, Rawa Pening, Gua Maria Kerep, Gunung Telomoyo, dll. Belum lagi berbagai kesenian dan makanan khas daerah.

"Ambarawa Heritage" lahir dari kegelisahan beberapa orang yang merasa dan melihat adanya cagar budaya yang tidak dipelihara dan dikelola secara optimal, yang dikhawatirkan akan mengakibatkan rusak, pudar, atau bahkan hilangnya warisan leluhur Ambarawa dalam jangka pendek maupun dalam jangka panjang. Yayasan "Ambarawa Heritage" punya ”mimpi” melestarikan heritage Ambarawa untuk kebaikan bersama, baik untuk saat ini maupun untuk masa mendatang, khususnya bagi warga Ambarawa dan bagi bangsa Indonesia pada umumnya. Ambarawa Heritage saat ini diketuai Ir. Y. Joko Setiyanto. Sedangkan Sekjennya adalah DR. Ir. Eddy Prianto, CES, DEA. Sejak bulan lalu organisasi ini sudah memiliki situs di http://www.ambarawa-heritage.com/.

Pembicara lainnya, Drs.Suparwadi MM, Ketua Dewan Pariwisata Kabupaten Semarang mengatakan: ”Seringkali upaya pelestarian heritage kurang bisa berjalan karena masing-masing sektor di pemerintah daerah berjalan sendiri-sendiri. Ini mengakibatkan kebijakan yang dikeluarkan terkadang berbenturan dengan kepentingan lain, misalnya pelestarian heritage. Sebagai contoh adalah berdirinya bangunan di area heritage seperti di sepanjang jalan Lemahabang menuju kawasan Bandungan”.

Sementara itu, pembicara lainnya yang hadir adalah Wiwoho ST, MSi, mewakili Kepala Dinas Lingkungan Hidup, Pertambangan dan Energy (LHPE) Kabupaten Semarang. Hadir juga salah satu perwakilan dari Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup. Kekecewaan, Kegelisahan dan Harapan PesertaLain dengan pembicara, lain pula dengan peserta. Kalau pembicara lebih mengarah pada menggali potensi, tetapi ketika peserta diberi kesempatan bertanya, beberapa peserta dari sekitar 45 orang yang hadir justru lebih banyak mengungkapkan kekecewaan, kegelisahan dan juga harapan. Salah satu penanya, yakni Kasihan, Ketua Kelompok Tani Sedyo Rukun – Rowo Pening, mengungkapkan kekecewaannya kepada pemerintah daerah yang tidak pernah melibatkan masyarakat dan kelompok tani pada saat pengangkatan / pembersihan eceng gondok di Rawa Pening. Juga keprihatinannya karena pada samping kiri – kanan di sepanjang rel kereta api dari arah Ambarawa menuju Tuntang saat ini sebagian tumbuh menjadi pemukiman kumuh yang tentu saja mengganggu keindahan dan keaslian heritage.

Sedangkan perwakilan dari Yon Kav Ambarawa mengharapkan sarasehan tsb bisa menghasilkan sebuah rumusan yang jelas mengenai “Siapa? Harus berbuat apa? Dan kapan?” Beliau juga menyatakan bahwa Yon Kav siap bila Ambawara Heritage mengajak kerja sama, khususnya bila dibutuhkan bantuan untuk kerja bhakti, karena selama ini Yon Kav sudah biasa malakukan kerja bhakti bersama masyarakat Ambarawa. Seorang peserta lainnya menyoroti minimnya penghijauan dan kemacetan lalu lintas di Ambarawa. Sedangkan yang lain mengusulkan perlunya hotel-hotel di Kabupaten Semarang membuat gerakan menggunakan keset dan sandal dari eceng gondok buatan masyarakat Ambarawa dan sekitarnya guna menumbuhkan perekonomian warga. Peserta lain menyarankan agar konservasi warisan / pusaka melibatkan dinas pendidikan agar generasi mendatang juga peduli dan bertanggung-jawab terhadap warisan / pusaka dan lingkungannya. Seorang peserta lainnya, yang karena kecintaannya kepada Museum Kereta Api Ambarawa dia membuat blog http://www.ambarawarailwaymuseum.blogspot.com/, menyarankan agar "Ambarawa Heritage" bisa memanfaatkan potensi Blogger untuk mempromosikan heritage Ambarawa ke ke seluruh dunia melalui dunia maya.

Di akhir sarasehan, Sekjen Ambarawa Heritage mengajak semua pihak yang peduli dengan warisan / pusaka Ambarawa untuk sama-sama berjuang melestarikannya. Pria yang pernah mempelajari ilmu tentang heritage saat belajar di Perancis th 1992 – 2002 ini sebenarnya bukan warga Ambarawa. Meskipun kiprahnya belum terlihat betul, tetapi semangat dan perjuangan "Ambarawa Heritage" yang luar biasa, salah satunya adalah perjuangan demi lahirnya perda konservasi warisan / pusaka Ambarawa, barangkali bisa disebut sebagai sebuah ekspresi semangat sumpah pemuda. Siapa tahu dari Ambarawa, Kota Palagan ini nantinya bisa bergulir ke kota-kota lain di seluruh Indonesia bangkitnya semangat untuk melestarikan warisan / pusaka Indonesia.

Di Museum Kereta Api Ambarawa kita bisa menikmati Wisata Kereta Api Bergerigi atau disebut juga Wisata Kereta Gunung (Railway Mountain Tour). Uniknya di sini adalah kereta tsb bisa menanjak karena ada gerigi-gerigi di tengahnya. Kalau Anda perhatikan gambar sebelah, maka di sana terlihat relnya tidak hanya dua, malainkan tiga, yakni ada satu lagi di tengah. Dan rel-nya juga lebar.

Lokomotif yg digunakan adalah lokomotif uap (steam locomotive) buatan Jerman dengan roda bergerigi di tengah yg berguna untuk tanjakan atau turunan. Sedangkan gerbong untuk penumpang ada dua yg terbuat dari kayu. Gerbong penumpang ini buatan Belanda. Hingga saat ini (2008) semuanya, baik lokomotif maupun gerbongnya masih oirisinil.

Wisata Kereta Api Bergerigi atau (Wisata Kereta GunungRailway Mountain Tour) di Museum Kereta Api Ambarawa ini berjarak sekitar sepuluh kilometer. Jarak ini sudah termasuk 489 mtr rel bergerigi tsb, yaitu antara Ambarawa sampai dengan Bedono. Sedangkan biaya yg harus dibayar sekali berangkat adalah (2008) sekitar Rp. 2,2 juta untuk pulang pergi, atau sekitar 20 Km.

Dalam perjalanan Wisata Kereta Gunung (Railway Mountain Tour) ini kita bisa menikmati pemandangan alam yg indah karena letak Bedono yang ketinggiannya sekitar 711 mtr di atas permukaan laut. Sementara Ambarawa hanya sekitar 474 mtr di atas permukaan laut (DPL). Kita bisa menyaksikan persawahan yg membentang luas, Rawa Pening yg sangat eksotik dan mistis, serta hijauanya pegunungan di kejauhan.

Kalau kita lagi mujur, bisa-bisa kita akan menikmati atau Wisata Kereta Api BergerigiWisata Kereta Gunung (Railway Mountain Tour) di Museum Kereta Api Ambarawa ini secara gratis. Kenapa? Karena seringkali ada turis asing yg memborong, sedangkan mereka hanya datang berdua, atau masih banyak kursi yg kosong. Jadi kita bisa menumpang. GRATIS...!!! Enak, kan???

Sejarah Museum Kereta Api Ambarawa ini mengacu pada buku berjudul:

MUSEUM KERETA API AMBARAWA - THE AMBARAWA RAILWAY MUSEUM yg saya beli di museum tersebut seharga Rp. 10.000,- pada Desember 2007. Buku ditulis dalam bahasa Indonesia dan Inggris. Buku sampul kuning (yg lebih tepat disebut foto-copy-an) ini tidak ada penerbitnya, tetapi pada halaman terakhir buku tsb (hal. 39) di sana dicantumkan Daftar Pustaka, yakni:

Museum Kereta Api Ambarawa diresmikan pada tgl 21 April 1978 (hal. 1). Siapa yg meresmikan? Dalam buku ini tidak disebutkan secara pasti, tetapi di sana dikatakan bahwa pada tgl 21 April 1978 Menteri perhubungan saat itu, Bpk. Roesmin Noerjadin meninjau museum ini dan menikmati wisata dengan kereta api bergigi (hal. 9). Bagaimana proses "terjadinya" Museum Kereta Api Ambarawa ini? Berikut ini saya sarikan dari buku tsb.

Sejarah Kereta Api di Indonesia.

Perkereta-apian di Indonesia dimulai oleh N.V. NISM. Pada tgl 7 Juni 1864 perusahaan ini membangun jalur rel kereta api di Jawa Tengah antara Semarang - Surakarta - Yogyakarta. Ketika Indonesia sudah merdeka, pada thn 1950 Dinas Kereta Api (DKA) mulai memodernisasi lokomotif uapnya dengan lokomotif diesel yg lebih modern dan lebih efisien. Memasuki thn 70'an lokomotif uap kemudian menjadi semacam "barang antik" setelah tidak lagi diproduksi oleh produsen mereka.

Dari sinilah timbul gagasan untuk membuat museum kereta api. Gubernur Jateng saat itu, Bpk. Soepardjo Rustam, bekerjasama dengan Kepala PJKA (Perusahaan Jawatan Kereta Api) mulai mengumpulkan lokomotif uap dan menempatkannya di stasiun Ambarawa.

At The Ambarawa Railway Museum we may enjoy a railway mountain tour. Using cog trains, the distance of this tour, from Ambarawa to Bedono, is about 10 km away, includes its cog railway for about 489 meters. We must pay for about US$ 200 (in 2008) a trip.

Locomotive used at this mountain tour is "Emil Kessler", a wheel equipped steam locomotive made in Germany in 1902. In addition, this train uses two Holland made wood coaches. It is still original so far.
